In this exploration, the main unit consists of two wood frames connected by an array of adjacent strings. When stretched and/or twisted, this unit assumes the characteristics of a membrane. Tension in the strings effectively produces a surface, and reveals a sort of conceptual topography belonging to the surface. Questions that guided our experiment were: what happens when this unit is pulled and twisted at the same time creating non-planar surfaces? And how can these non-planar surfaces create space when they Connect, intersect, enclose shapes, or relate to one another through adjacencies or other random positions.
